This seven-night Sabi Sand Photo Safari is a premium Signature Series departure hosted by Andrew MacDonald and based entirely at Dulini River. Starting and ending at Skukuza, this safari is designed to combine comfort, consistency, and some of the finest wildlife photography opportunities in Africa.

Sabi Sand is renowned for its extraordinary game viewing, especially its leopard sightings, strong lion activity, and the kind of close wildlife encounters that make it one of the continent’s most celebrated safari destinations. With all seven nights spent at one camp, guests can settle into the rhythm of the reserve, focus fully on photography, and enjoy a more immersive experience without the disruption of moving between lodges.

This safari is ideal for guests who want a classic African wildlife photography experience delivered at a high standard, with luxury accommodation, excellent guiding, and a professional photographer host helping them make the most of every game drive.

The Photo Safari Experience in Uganda

Sabi Sand is one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations, and for photographers, it offers a rare combination of reliability, exclusivity, and beautifully varied wildlife encounters. This is a safari built around quality rather than haste, with each game drive offering the possibility of predator action, intimate portrait opportunities, behavioural moments, and the softer atmosphere that comes with returning to the same landscape over several days.

Staying at Dulini River for the full seven nights gives this safari a calm and consistent rhythm. Rather than packing and moving on, guests can settle into camp, get comfortable with the flow of the reserve, and focus on building a stronger body of photographic work over the course of the trip. With Andrew Macdonald hosting throughout, the aim is not simply to enjoy exceptional sightings, but to help guests come away with more thoughtful, polished, and rewarding wildlife images.

Limited to just 6 guests, this hosted Sabi Sand safari is designed for photographers who value strong wildlife encounters, luxury accommodation, and meaningful time in the field.

Sabi Sand Photo Safari Overview

Sabi Sand has long been regarded as one of Africa’s finest safari destinations, particularly for photographers wanting close wildlife encounters, exceptional guiding, and a strong chance of seeing iconic species such as leopard, lion, elephant, and buffalo. The reserve is known for its exclusivity, its outstanding game viewing, and the quality of the safari experience overall.

This itinerary is designed around a single-camp stay at Dulini River, giving guests the benefit of consistency, comfort, and time. Staying in one place allows the safari to settle into a natural rhythm, with early morning and afternoon game drives, downtime between activities, and the opportunity to return each day to a camp that feels familiar and refined.

Photographically, this is a safari with broad appeal. Guests can focus on dramatic predator sightings, intimate wildlife portraits, behaviour, light, atmosphere, and the classic mood of the African bush. With Andrew Macdonald hosting throughout, the aim is not only to enjoy remarkable wildlife encounters, but to help guests come away with a stronger, more cohesive collection of images.

This Photo Safari Itinerary

Please note: This itinerary is subject to change due to weather, logistics, or wildlife conditions. Your guides will adapt daily plans to maximise photographic opportunities and guest comfort.

This seven-night Sabi Sand photo safari is designed as a premium lodge-based safari with a consistent rhythm, allowing guests to enjoy exceptional game viewing, luxury accommodation, and meaningful time in the field. Based entirely at Dulini River, the itinerary starts and ends at Skukuza and is built around immersive game drives, wildlife photography, and time to enjoy one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations.

Short road transfer/game drive from airstrip to lodge.

Arrive at Skukuza, where your Sabi Sand photo safari begins. From here, transfer into the reserve and continue to Dulini River, your home for the next seven nights. Once settled in, guests can take time to relax, get acquainted with camp, and prepare for the first game drive of the safari. This opening day is all about arriving smoothly and easing into the rhythm of the bush.

Your first full day in Sabi Sand begins with an early morning game drive, when the bush is cool, active, and full of possibility. After returning to camp for breakfast and some downtime, the afternoon offers time to relax before heading back out for the evening drive. These first full safari days are about settling into the pace of the reserve, learning the light, and beginning to build your portfolio.

By now, the rhythm of safari life starts to feel natural. Morning and afternoon game drives provide the chance to focus on a wide range of subjects, from predators and large mammals to birds, smaller moments, and the atmosphere of the landscape itself. With Andrew MacDonald hosting throughout, guests can continue refining their photographic approach while enjoying the exceptional wildlife viewing that Sabi Sand is known for.

As the safari progresses, the benefit of staying in one camp becomes even more apparent. Without needing to move between lodges, guests can concentrate fully on the experience in front of them. Each drive adds another layer to the story of the reserve, whether through memorable sightings, interesting behaviour, or the quieter photographic moments that often become some of the most rewarding.

This is where the safari really comes into its own. Sabi Sand is famous for delivering the kind of wildlife encounters photographers dream about, particularly with big cats and other iconic safari species. The steady rhythm of repeated game drives, combined with a premium camp base and small group size, gives guests the best possible chance to enjoy both the spectacle and the subtlety of the African bush.

Another full day in the reserve allows for more time to follow the flow of sightings, weather, light, and wildlife activity. Some days will bring dramatic encounters, others may offer quieter and more intimate opportunities, but both are equally valuable from a photographic point of view. By this stage of the safari, guests are usually shooting with more confidence and a stronger sense of purpose.

Your final full day on safari is a chance to enjoy every last moment in the reserve. Whether that means focusing on a wishlist species, taking a more considered approach to composition, or simply soaking up the atmosphere of Sabi Sand, the last full day often feels especially meaningful. Returning to camp for the final evening, there is time to reflect on the experience and the images created over the course of the safari.

After breakfast, it is time to depart Dulini River and transfer back to Skukuza, where the safari concludes. Guests leave with not only a strong collection of wildlife images, but also the experience of having spent seven nights in one of Africa’s most iconic safari reserves.

If you would like to spend more time in Sabi Sand, this photo safari can easily be extended with additional nights either at Dulini River or at one of the other exceptional Dulini properties, including Dulini Moya or Leadwood Lodge. This is a great option for guests who want more time in the reserve, a little extra flexibility around travel, or the chance to enjoy a slightly different camp style while staying within the same premium safari portfolio.

This Sabi Sand photo safari also pairs exceptionally well with other safari destinations across Africa, making it a strong starting point or finishing point for a longer photographic journey. It can be combined with Dulini Anabezi in the Lower Zambezi, or extended further into other iconic safari regions such as the Okavango Delta and Chobe in Botswana, Mana Pools in Zimbabwe, or South Luangwa in Zambia.

For guests wanting a broader safari itinerary, we can help tailor this departure into a more expansive multi-destination African photo safari experience.

If you are interested in extending this safari or pairing it with another safari destination, please contact us. We would be happy to help tailor a longer itinerary to suit your travel plans, interests, and preferred style of safari.

“Sabi Sands was outstanding for a photo safari. The wildlife sightings were incredibly consistent, especially with big cats, which meant we could spend proper time working each scene. We had multiple opportunities with leopards and were able to focus on composition and light rather than rushing. The guide really understood photography and positioned us well every time.”
